Print-on-Demand MTG Proxies for Real Games, Real Brewing
Magic is at its best when you’re playing, not when you’re stuck behind a price wall, waiting weeks to finish a deck, or goldfishing screenshots because you don’t own the last 23 cards. BootlegMTG exists for one simple reason:
You should be able to test and play the decks you want to play—without pretending anything is official.
We’re a print-on-demand MTG proxy shop built for Commander nights, cube sessions, kitchen-table chaos, and the endless joy of “okay, but what if I rebuild this deck again… differently.” We print proxies that feel good in the hand, shuffle cleanly, and show up ready to play—clearly labeled as proxies and designed to avoid the problems that proxy communities have warned about for years.
If you’re here to brew, iterate, and actually get games in: welcome home.

What BootlegMTG is (and isn’t)
Let’s get this out of the way up front, in plain English.
BootlegMTG is
- A print-on-demand proxy service for MTG playtesting and casual play
- A way to build and rebuild decks fast—without chasing singles
- A quality-focused print shop that cares about consistency, cut, and readability
- A pro-community, anti-scam stance: proxies are about access, not deception
BootlegMTG is not
- Not affiliated with Wizards of the Coast
- Not a way to produce “official” cards
- Not for sanctioned tournament play
Why proxies are the best deckbuilding tool you can buy
If you’ve ever said any of these out loud…
- “I want to try this deck before I commit.”
- “I’m missing five staples and they’re all absurdly expensive.”
- “My list is close, but I need to test 10 swaps.”
- “I have a cube idea but I’m not buying 200 cards just to experiment.”
…you already understand proxies. Proxies are the fastest way to turn ideas into games.
Proxies help you:
- Playtest expensive strategies before you spend real money
- Tune Commander decks with iteration speed (the true cEDH secret)
- Support cubes without hunting down every last printing
- Level the table when your group wants fair games, not wallet duels
- Keep the game fun when the game’s price tags are not
And because we print on demand, you can treat your deck like software:
v1 → test → patch → v2 → test → rebuild the whole thing at 2am.
“Friday Night Quality” — the part people actually mean
When proxy folks say they want “good quality,” they usually mean three things:
1) The deck should shuffle and feel consistent
If half your cards feel thicker, glossier, or cut weird, it’s miserable to play. We focus on consistency so the deck feels like a deck.
2) Text should be clean and readable
Playtesting shouldn’t involve squinting at blurry rules text. Your proxies should function like game pieces first.
3) The print should be durable enough for real play
These are meant to be handled. We aim for proxies that hold up through repeated shuffling and game nights.
BootlegMTG is built around that “Friday Night” standard—clean, consistent, playable—without leaning into anything designed to fool people.
How print-on-demand works at BootlegMTG
Print-on-demand means you don’t need bulk minimums, and you don’t need to “plan a big order” to make it worth it. You print what you need, when you need it.
Step 1: Build your list
Bring a decklist, a paste-in text list, or your own custom card files (for your cube, your playgroup’s house set, or your weird pet project). The goal is simple: get your idea into a printable order.
Step 2: Choose how you want your proxies labeled
Proxies should be obvious at a glance. We offer clear proxy labeling options so nobody at the table is confused and nobody down the line can claim ignorance.
Common options include:
- A PROXY mark in a consistent location
- A custom proxy back (deck name, color identity, icon set, etc.)
- A clean “playtest” footer so it’s unmistakable
Step 3: Preview and proof
Before we print, you should be able to see the basics clearly: crop, alignment, and overall layout. This is where we kill the classic proxy problems: off-center frames, awkward cropping, and “why is the name line half cut off.”
Step 4: We print, cut, and ship
We print your order, cut it clean, pack it so it arrives flat, and ship it out ready for games.
Step 5: Reorder fast (because you will change the list)
Everyone changes the list. That’s the point. Print-on-demand is built for iteration.
If your goal is to play more Magic without the price gate, you’re in the right place.
If your goal is to trick someone, you’re not.
Proxy etiquette: how to keep your playgroup happy
Proxies work best when everyone is aligned. Here’s the simple code:
Ask first
Most casual groups are fine with proxies—many encourage them—but a 10-second check avoids drama.
Be transparent
Your opponents shouldn’t have to wonder what they’re looking at. Clear labeling keeps everything clean.
Respect the room
Some LGS environments don’t want proxies on tables, even for casual play. Don’t fight the store—play proxies where they’re welcome.
Keep it readable
If your proxy looks cool but nobody can read it, it slows down games. Function matters.
Support the game when you can
Buy singles sometimes. Buy sleeves. Draft at your LGS. Proxies can coexist with supporting the ecosystem—your wallet just shouldn’t be the gatekeeper for whether you get to play.
